Overview

Business Systems Analyst with a strong blend of business acumen, technical knowledge, analytical thinking, and communication skills. This role requires a foundation in legacy ERP systems (particularly U2/UniVerse), along with hands-on experience in SQL, Visual Basic, Unix/Linux, and shell scripting (BASH or Bourne) being a big plus. You will be a key liaison between business units and technology teams, ensuring our systems evolve to meet changing business needs while maintaining operational integrity.

The ideal candidate has experience working with complex systems, translating business needs into functional requirements, and supporting cross-departmental collaboration to improve processes and system capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and improve business processes by working closely with stakeholders and technical teams to define and document system requirements.
  • Provide support and enhancements to Electro Rent’s legacy ERP and internal business systems, especially those based on UniVerse/U2, SQL, and Visual Basic.
  • Perform data analysis to support reporting, process improvements, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify integration points and ensure smooth data flow between legacy systems and modern applications.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation including process flows, technical specifications, user guides, and training materials.
  • Support testing, implementation, and user training for new system functionality or updates.
  • Monitor and resolve application and data issues, escalating as needed and communicating resolutions clearly to users and stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relationships across business units, ensuring alignment between business goals and technical capabilities.
  • Participate in planning and prioritization of system improvements to meet operational and strategic objectives.

Qualifications

Q

  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst or similar role in a technology or operations-focused environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Business, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Legacy ERP systems (preferably U2/UniVerse)
  • Visual Basic
  • SQL (Any Flavor, MS SQL preferred)
  • Unix/Linux environments and shell scripting (BASH/Bourne)
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, document, and communicate complex business and technical requirements clearly and effectively.
  • Experience supporting system integrations and data exchanges between legacy systems and web-based applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze issues across technical and operational domains.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external vendors.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable creating clear technical and business documentation, including workflows and specifications.
  • Scripting experience in Python is a plus.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modernization or migration projects from legacy ERP to modern platforms.
  • Familiarity with enterprise reporting tools and dashboards.
  • Power BI Dashboarding or other Business Visualization tools
  • Understanding of inventory, leasing, or equipment management processes.
  • Exposure to scripting for data processing and batch jobs in a production environment.
  • Basic system administration concepts in Linux, Unix, and / or Windows environments.
