Industrial Engineer will support the local rental and lease activity within a region with the ability to test, calibrate and assist customers in application or startup issues.  The engineer will work closely with customers, vendors and other ER organizational groups to resolve any technical support issues. The engineer should have enough programming experience to enable and run diagnostic and calibration software as developed by the manufacture or ER primary laboratory.   The engineer must understand specifications and applications for which the instrumentation can be used. The Engineer will need to work closely with vendors and ER’s primary lab to expand knowledge and ability to meet higher end calibration such as Z540-3 and 17025 accredited calibrations.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Test and calibrate industrial and power quality test equipment.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new test equipment and applications.
  • Assist with uncertainty budgets and help classify all verification programs to the highest standard possible.
  • Assist the organization in expanding our current technical knowledge and support issues through the use of issue track.
  • Work closely with sales and product group to provide technical assistance to pre and post sales activities.
  • Provide technical interface for customer support issues.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or equivalent training in applications and test utilized by Power Industry.
  • 2 years or greater experience in Power Industry test procedures.
  • Some experience in programming instrumentation.
  • The ability to acquire an in-depth understanding of Electro Rent’s test equipment that supports the power industry within six month period.
  • Prior experience maintaining Microsoft Window and SQL servers and the ability to program SQL.
  • Customer service experience considered a plus.
  • Advanced understanding of Electronic theory and instrumentation applications
  • Ability to work in an electronic laboratory with application engineers and technicians.
  • Strong computer skills including programming languages, Word, Excel, and ability to learn proprietary database software
  • Ability to perform the required physical elements of the job (listed below)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable

 

Measurable Performance

  • Number of test and verification test performed
  • Number of customer calls that result in exchanges.
  • Increase in number of models the lab can calibrate in house.
  • Customer satisfaction survey results
  • Overall Growth of industrial market.
  • Technical competence of the lab
  • Manufacturer relationships
  • General performance as defined by standard company performance evaluation form

 

Relationships

  • Direct report to local operations manager
  • Works closely with lab technical staff
  • Works directly with Customer Service Engineers
  • Works directly with National Quality Manager to derive uncertainties
  • Works closely with manufacturers and contract programmers as needed

 

Physical Requirements

All positions will require, to some degree, the physical abilities described below to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

  • Work the expected hours, consistently arrive at work at the agreed time and follow Company rules and guidelines regarding breaks and meal periods. Full time is typically considered to be 40 hours per week
  • Communicate effectively, both oral and written.
  • Move around and through all work areas as needed, may include climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds (i.e. books, reports, binders etc).
  • Regularly sit at the assigned workstation
  • Use keyboard or equivalent equipment, to access the computer,
  • Use hands to manipulate documents and general paperwork in order to view contents
  • read documents, reports, files etc.
  • Communicate effectively using the telephone

 

In addition to the above physical requirements warehouse and field support positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds of equipment or boxes above the head, alone; or with help, lift 150 pounds.
